Raising awareness of Scotland's freshwater fish and their habitats

To provide a platform to host map-based information relevant to Scotland’s freshwater environment, and to raise awareness of data collected by Fisheries Trusts and Government, SFCC have developed a freshwater fisheries web map.

Thank you to all SFCC members who provided comments on version 1, and who have been working to audit the SFCC database which drives much of the data behind this map.

The map also ‘streams’ layers from MSS and SEPA for example,  which can be switched on and off using the layers button. Under the ethos of the Wild Fisheries Reform, SFCC are in discussion with public bodies to invite further fisheries relevant datasets to be hosted here.

Awareness of data through the map has, for example, already assisted SNH on a project to determine the range of native and non-native fishes in Scotland.

All data is collected and owned by the Fisheries Trusts as listed below who are members of the Scottish Fisheries Co-ordination Centre. All data may not be replicated, cited, copied or utilised without prior written permission from the Scottish Fisheries Co-ordination Centre, and the respective Fisheries Trust data owners.

Rivers displayed are streamed from the CEH 1:50K Digital Rivers Network Web Map Service (2015). The barriers to fish migration and Water Framework Directive Classification layers are streamed from the SEWEB (SEPA) Web Map Service.

Presence/absence data from the European Eel Management Plan is derived from DEFRA (2010), with thanks to Jason Godfrey.
